6 Ballygunge Place celebrates Eternal Love for Sweets with Pithey Puli
January 12 , 2012, Kolkata : 6 Ballygunge Place, specializing in period fine dining Bengali delicacies, prepared in authentic style, brings to you the "Pithey Puli Festival" to showcase Bengal's eternal love for sweets. One of the first things that you will notice when you land in Kolkata is the number of sweet shops on the road! They're more in number than any Idli Dosa joint you find in South Indian cities like Chennai! And sweets in Bengal are so varied and so many, that someone should write a directory or an Index kind of thing to summarize all the sweets that Bengalis ever invented!
Bengali's and sweets: this relation goes back to many centuries! Of all the occasions celebrated by the quintessential Bengali, perhaps nothing brings more gastronomic delight than the occasion of Poush Sankranti, which brings along with it the custom of making pithes and pulis. These little balls of heaven symbolizes the coming of winter, and the arrival of a season where rich food can be included in the otherwise mild diet of the Bengalis... the richness lie in the creamy silkiness of the milk which is mixed often with molasses, or jaggery made of either date palm or sugarcane, and sometimes sugar. On this occasion, a Special Preview of the lip smacking and delightful sweet delicacies which will be on display at the festival like Dhakai Ros Pitha, Choshe Pithe, Chandra Pithe, Gokul Pithe was arranged at the restaurant.
Makar Sankranti being one of the most auspicious occasions for the Hindus is celebrated in almost all parts of the state in myriad cultural forms, with great devotion, fervour and gaiety. It is basically a harvest festival with the preparation of seizing the initiative of welcoming fresh rice. Bengalis generally celebrate this time of the season with unique Bengali sweet delicacies. To capture the mood and essence of this festive juncture, the restaurant has arranged a festival comprised with delicacies that are close to the soil.
"Bengalis know how to eat; they celebrate the pleasures of the table with gusto." Bengalis have always been passionate about their sweet connections; Roshogolla being the eternal favourite. This time of the year, brings the smell of Jaggery and sweets from the date palm extract that capture all attention. From time immemorial, winter in this part of the country brings back fond memories of Jaggery (Nolen Gur) and especially sweets made from it. 6 Ballygunge Place brings back that earthly smell and the love for sweets. The restaurant offers an array of delectable and tempting dishes for the sweet lovers like Nolen Gurer Patishapta, Kuli Pitha, Doodh Pooli, Ranga Alooer Puli, etc.
At the time when people of Bengal are going back to their roots with much more emphasis on rural development and culturally getting aware of the lost earthen smell and noise of Bengal, with entertainment following the steps of 'Moner Manush', 6 Ballygunge Place brings back those memories and reignite those old world tastes once again. Sweet pithas are also often flavored using cardamom or camphor. Depending on the type of pithey being prepared, pithas can be fried in oil or ghee, slow-roasted over a fire, steamed, or baked and rolled over a hot plate.
The 'Pithey Puli Festival' is on at 6 Ballygunge Place on the 14th and 15th January, 2012. Take your time, and enjoy the sweetness and maddening aromas of an array of delectable dishes. We are sure that one visit will not be enough.

BAPL launches Health Skycity in Aerotropolis; ties up with Mission Hospital
January 10 , 2012, Kolkata : The Mission Hospital (TMH) has decided to establish a 500-bed multi-specialty hospital in the health skycity of India's first aerotropolis being developed by Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL) in the Asansol Durgapur Planning Area. This was confirmed through a joint announcement made by TMH and BAPL of their memorandum of understanding.
This tie-up forms part of BAPL's innovative urban development plan that involves the complete integration of complementary zones; this includes a domestic airport, IT skypark, logistics skyhub, health skycity, education skycity and other segment-specific precincts coming together in a unique fully integrated urban form. Two pivotal areas providing social infrastructure support to the aerotropolis are the education skycity - which will cater to over 15,000 students when it's complete - and the proposed 1000-bed health skycity.
Dwelling on this significant initiative for the region, Mr Subrata Paul, CEO & Director - Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited, said, "We are delighted with this association, as The Mission Hospital is doing great work in this region and we anticipate taking healthcare initiatives to even greater heights together. For the aerotropolis, this is further demonstration of our commitment to develop a robust social infrastructure that will aid in holistic progress of the Asansol Durgapur Planning Area in particular as well as the larger region of South Bengal."
TMH will create the first multi-specialty hospital in the health skycity. TMH already operates a 250-bed tertiary care hospital, which performs over 1500 heart surgeries, over 4000 complex cardiology procedures, over 1000 neuro-surgeries and around 1100 orthopaedic operations, apart from having one of the busiest emergency departments in the state treating more than 1,00,000 patients annually. This brings with it valuable insight of the healthcare needs of the region and abundant goodwill from patients there. Remarkably, TMH's patients are not just confined to the region but also come from other countries.
Announcing the agreement with BAPL, Dr Satyajit Bose, Chairman- The Mission Hospital, said, "We want to set up a 500-bed multi-specialty hospital here, which will improve Durgapur's hospital bed ratio. It will not just have all the specialties, but will even perform complex, nuanced procedures like liver transplants. Also, with the airport just 2 km from the proposed hospital site, we'll be able to better serve our out-of-town patients. With BAPL, we're putting a seamless service network in place, where we'll have emergency medical care from within the airport all the way to the hospital bed."
Both organisations have been proactive in healthcare for the economically weaker sections as well. While BAPL, as part of its Sevanjali program, has conducted health camps to treat over 9000 patients and organised free cancer screening, eye examination and eye surgery for over 700 patients in villages neighbouring the aerotropolis project, TMH conducts over 300 health camps, 100 open heart surgeries, 500 cleft lip & palate operations free of cost every year.
The two organisations are developing a detailed blueprint to collaborate on various other healthcare initiatives in the region. Among the concepts being explored is the possibility of providing free healthcare to denizens of the aerotropolis.
About BAPL: Incorporated in 2007, Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL) is a specialized infrastructure company engaged in the identification and development of aerotropolis projects in India. At present, it is developing an aerotropolis (or skycity) at Durgapur in West Bengal.

About The Mission Hospital: The Mission Hospital Durgapur, a 250-bed quaternary healthcare centre, is the first mover in delivering super-specialty medical facility for people beyond Kolkata.
The organisation's vision finds its origin in some stark facts: of West Bengal's population of 11 crore, only 1.5 crore (those in Kolkata) have access to better healthcare. Even in Kolkata, there are very few hospitals with full-time dedicated in-campus doctors, leading to longer reaction times. Hospitals charge indiscriminately, leading to efflux of patients and the concomitant economy to other states offering more holistic care.
The Mission Hospital is designed to meet and exceed the standards of the finest corporate hospitals in India, with futuristic technology supporting systems, processes and operations run by committed "full-time" brilliant minds. The organisation’s concentrated focus is on "quality" and "transparency", and it is the first to introduce "close-ended" packages, wherein the patients don’t have to spend beyond the pre-determined estimate, even if they overstay for medical reasons.
As a result of its innovative programs and compassionate approach to healthcare, the hospital has patients coming from Pakistan, Nigeria, Bhutan, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Nepal, in addition to people from all the adjoining areas and states.
The Mission Hospital, having established its competencies, is now in expansion mode. Apart from enhancing its existing capacity by adding 150 more beds to make its first unit a 400-bed facility, which will also bring in a state-of-the-art cancer centre, the organisation has also acquired a 2.5 acre plot in Siliguri and a 4.5 acre plot in Ranchi to set up two more tertiary health care facilities. Add the second Durgapur unit to the mix and this means that, in the next 24 months, THE MISSION HOSPITAL will have over 2000 beds across Eastern India.
This will go a long way in fulfilling the organisation’s incipient mission of ensuring that patients in East India will have superior healthcare at their doorstep, so that they’re not forced to take recourse to unscrupulous agents or touts at distant locations; the days of making tedious journeys over inordinate distances even for a "follow up" will end. The auxiliary benefit of patients taking treatment in their home state - rather than travelling out for it - would be the positive impact it will have on the state exchequer.
spiritual event by srei
January 02 , 2012, Kolkata : "Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." ? Maya Angelou . The world today as we view upon is diverse with the smell of corruption, hatred, terrorism, degradation of moral values and enormous stress of daily life and its hardships. Human beings are in a desperate search for moral restoration of individual self as well as in a societal format as a whole. SREI Foundation has taken this initiative for this 3 day spiritual rendezvous "World Confluence of Humanity, Power & Spirituality", which was inaugurated today at the EZCC premises.
Shri Saugata Roy-Hon'ble Minister of State for Urban Development, Govt. of India and Shri Sudip Bandyopadhyay - Hon'ble Minister of State Ministry of Health, Govt. of India were present during the inaugural session along with other dignitaries like Shri.Basant Kumar Birla & Smt.Sarala Birla and Dr.R.K.Pachauri-Nobel Laureate & Director General of TERI and spiritual guru such as, Goverdhan Mathhadheeshwar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Adhokshjanand Devteerth, Puri (Orissa).
Life is an enigma. There are as many theories about it as there are thinking minds. Prophet, poet or philosopher; whoever contemplated on life faced two realities - an eternal beautiful universe in the background and the short, wretched existence of the most intelligent being in the foreground. What is the connection between the two? This little inquiry has fathered the various schools of philosophy and theology. Life as a subject is very vast and very mysterious. Life, though difficult to comprehend, is much easier to experience. But, such experiences cannot be described in words. Our language is too inadequate to express routine aesthetic experiences.
Sometimes these questions become apparent in our daily life; more so in today's mind boggling pressure. Thus the need for spiritual teachers, gurus or torchbearers is so very important in present day life. According to Mr. H. P. Kanoria, Chairman, World Confluence of Humanity, Power & Spirituality, "World has become a human jungle in various other reasons than what we have read in books. Hence to maintain a proper
diction of our mind and soul, we need to arrange and attend this kind of congregation more often."
The session thus started with Ganesh Vandana by Shri Dheeraj Sharma/Avnnishree Kanoria and followed by discussions on topic like "Service to Humanity & Nature". The speech on the above topic were given by none other than Goverdhan Mathhadheeshwar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swami Adhokshjanand Devteerth, Puri (Orissa).
The afternoon session started with another round of discussions on issues concerned "Spiritual Awareness gateway to Power, Wealth and Happiness". Speeches on these topics were given by Shri Pandit N.K.Sharma President-Universal Association for Spiritual Awareness, Maulana Mohammed Shafique Qasmi Sahab, Inam and Khatib of Nakhuda Masjid.
The Mission of this conference was to live and let live in peace, Harmony,Love following the path of righteousness protecting Mother Earth, faith in own religion while respecting other religions, awakening the inner power and ingnite human power.

Treat yourself to some hot and spicy Bangladeshi fare only at 6 Ballygunge Place
November 04 , 2011, Kolkata : Good food laid out is an aesthetic experience, one of the joys of living. Careful shopping, fresh ingredients and unhurried approach are things to reach the goal. But of course there is one more ingredient: love- one's love for food which 'Bangalis' have in abundance. To many, Bengali cuisine represents a food tradition in its entirety. They get flummoxed when we talk about Epaar Bangla and Opaar Bangla. Only the gourmets can point out the subtleties in their taste, flavor, ingredients and recipe. Though apparently similar, they have different legacies running through. To highlight and uphold the Bangladeshi cuisine or the 'opar bangla' traditional delicacy among the local community, 6 Ballygunge Place, the premium Bengali eatery has conceptualized a special 'Bangladeshi Food Festival' from 6th Nov-20th Nov only at its flagship Ballygunge branch. Today the delectable cuisine was laid for an exclusive food preview in presence of the dignitaries of Bangladesh High Commission along with percussionist Bikram Ghosh. The festival is arranged in association with GMG Airlines.
Bangladeshi tradition displays a fusion of both Islamic and Hindu traditions because of their shared history of prevalence in this country. This influence have given the Bangladeshi kitchen different varieties of 'korma', 'kalia', 'Pulao', 'biriyani', 'porota' and alfresco cooking. Bangladeshi food culture, therefore, has a dual heritage: on the one hand, they have everyday food habits based on indigenous traditions and on the other is the festival food and food for special occasion, influenced by important ideas of food and eating.
One can enjoy richest and most varied traditional Bangladeshi dishes during the festival at 6 Ballygunge Place. Authentic dishes such as Bhorta, Bhaja, Dal, and different Chicken, Mutton, Fish Curries are on offer. An array of rice and roti like Subzi Pulao (Rs 125), Morog Pulao (Rs 250), Bhuna Khichuri (Rs 125), Lacchha Paratha (Rs 15) and Loochi (Rs 10) figure on the menu. One can accompany these with Chingri Ar Jalpai Diye Dal (Rs 125), Musur Dal Chorchori (Rs 95), Begun Bhaja (Rs 95), Katla Mach er Peti Bhaja(Rs 135) or Puti Mach Bhaja (rs 150). Another dish that Bangladesh loves, Bhorta or mashed fare prepared with fish, prawns, brinjals, pumpkins and so on, which are of course divine, can mark the beginning of a meal. The festival will fete the hilsa in many ways, as no gala occasion can be without the fish in the two Bengals. One can gorge on lip smacking Elish mach Bhaja (Rs 200), Shorshe Eilish (Rs 210), Eilish Bhuna (Rs 210), Eilish Lau Bori (Rs 210), and Eilish Macher Matha Diya Kachusaag (Rs 150). One can also opt for other fish preparations like Shorshe Chingri (Rs 295), Aar Macher Bhuna(Rs 185), Chital Peti Roast (Rs 350) or Kachki Macher Chorchori (Rs 150). To go to the heart of the meal, one needs to focus on delicacies like Murgi Bangladeshi (Rs 195), Murgir Lotpoti (Rs 195), Achari Mangsho (Rs 250), Mutton Nehari (Rs 250) or Jali Kabab (Rs 250). All the vegetarians can get spoilt with a gamut of options ranging from Kasha Aloo Dum (Rs 95), Sim Aloo Paturi (Rs 115), Kachu Lotir Chorchori (Rs 95), and Chhanar Dalna (Rs 115). The dessert section boasts of the eternal favorite Phirni (Rs 75) and Zarda (Rs 75).
Mr. Joseph Gomes- Head Chef of Hotel Abakash, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and his Associate Mr. Mir Mohammad Shahidul Alam are being specially flown from Bangladesh to join hands with Executive Chef of 6 Ballygunge Place, Sushanta Sengupta for this festival of familiar exotica. And that's just the right order for those looking for a mix of the home and the outside. Bangladesh food would be familiar but new at the same time. A sense of drama envelopes the food - with its vivid images of turbulent rivers, lush fields and noisy kitchens. Bangladesh food is spicy and hot; in this festival the cuisine has been carefully selected and flavours are perfected, blending the right kind of spices and herbs just to pamper your palate.

"This lounge would be spread over 3000 sq.ft. at Dumdum Nagerbazar. At the heart of the concept is the subtle effort to rekindle the two most celebrated passion of Bengalis- Football and Food. There would be club merchandise such as T-shirts, badges, and assorted gift items such as coffee mugs, footballs and posters for the crazy fans to take home. The decor boasts of anecdotes of how East Bengal Club and its players have celebrated memorable victories. There would be a pavilion of fame with history, milestones and landmark victories- all portrayed in detail with photos and text. The theme colour of the lounge would be none other than red and yellow, colours that signifies East Bengal Football. Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo to tap their musical chemistry in their first duet album of Tagore songs
August 25 , 2011, Kolkata : Today evening city of joy witnessed yet another wonderful occasion as veteran singers Alka Yagnik and Babul Supriyo released their first duet Rabindrasangeet album 'Mone Robe' by Asha Audio, a collection of 10 immortal Tagore songs. Mone Robe is path breaking; listeners can instantly connect to the soulful rendition of the popular Tagore songs. Both the artists have handled each of the songs with dexterity and aplomb, being delightfully original in their rendering and phrasing, but not for a moment digressing from the sacrosanct swaralipi. The inherent subdued nature of Tagorean compositions never gets marred because of the unparalleled restraint displayed in the vocal rendition as well as of the accompaniments.
"The album has four romantic duets and some solo songs", said Mahua Lahiri, the proprietor of Asha Audio, "the duets are - "Amar o porano jaha chai", "Mone rabe ki na rabe", "Ami kebali swapano" and "Noi noi madhur khela". Besides these, Alka Yagnik has sung four solo songs - "Amar bela je jai", "Sahe na jatona", "Gopono katha ti" and "Balo sakhi balo". Babul, on his part, has sung "O je mane na mana" and "Sakhi boye gelo bela". While Babul recorded his songs in Kolkata, Alka dubbed her portions later on in Mumbai."
Alka Yagnik is classically trained and has been one of the leading playback singers in Bollywood since the late 1980s. Her first song was for the film Payal Ki Jhankaar , followed by Laawaris with the hit song "Mere Angene Mein", and followed by the film Hamari Bahu Alka . She got her big break with the song "Ek Do Teen" from the film Tezaab. The song turned her into a star overnight and went on to become a pop hit, also winning her a Filmfare Best Female Playback Award. Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak was also a career maker for her, as she along with Udit Narayan became household names. Though she is born and brought up in Kolkata, she never got a chance to sing for a Bengali album in her long career span. "Mone Robe has fulfilled my longstanding dream to do Tagore songs. A dream I had cherished since my childhood years in Kolkata. This is my first humble offering to all Rabindrasangeet lovers", opined Alka Yagnik.
Babul Supriyo, a proud Kolkattan, was shot into fame with films like Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Hum Tum, Chori Chori Chupke Chupke and Dhai Akshar prem Ke. He has already released two solo Tagore albums during past two Durga Pujas. He recorded 'Katobaro vebechinu' in the year 2009 which later on became a Gold disk. In 2010, he released his second album 'Jodi jantem' which also became chartbusters. This time he is again back with yet another album that is 'Mone Robe'. "Rabindrasangeet is our Heart's treasure, to let any of emotion or moment in your life, sink into you with its true meaning. After my two successful albums "Mone Robe" happened with Alka Yagnik, the sweetest voice. She happily agreed to do this duet album with me as she is a Bengali at heart, having spent lot of her youth in Kolkata. She poured her heart out in it. I am sure all of you will love and enjoy the songs and the feel of this compilation", said Babul Supriyo.
For Rabindrasangeet aficionados Mone Robe will turn out to be a cherished possession in their CD shelves and a must have album for the connoisseur Rabindrasangeet listener.

August 08 , 2011, Kolkata : Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar was in city recently for the inauguration of a state-of-the-art digital sound recording studio named after the singer herself- "Lata Didi's Sound" It is an initiative by Indo Occidental Symbiosis to bring in the renowned maestro to the city of joy.
The studio, Lata Didi's Sound, is a first-of-its-kind in the city which comprises of all the state-of-the-art digital technologies required for sound recording and mixing. The studio comprises of Mac Pro, Pro tools HD 3, Nuendo 5, C24 fully automated mixer, Microphones - Neumann , Akg , Shure and Speakers Genelec 8040 A & 1037 C which. These advanced technologies will provide a dream like experience for the new age music composers and singers.
With an investment of a huge amount, the studio has been able to deliver the highest quality of sound texture for the music industry. The name, 'Lata Didi's Sound' has been coined to offer a tribute to the legendary singer for her priceless contribution to the Indian music industry. The melodious voice quality of Lata Mangeshkar has given us numerous evergreen numbers close to our heart. Lata Didi's Sound aims at recording many such evergreen numbers embellishing each of them the best quality sound texture.
The flexibility of virtual instruments within the Pro Tools HD environment that have been installed at the studio will augment the creative process involved in recording, allowing the recorders to sculpt sonic textures with little resemblance to terrestrial sounds. The integration of Sibelius into Pro Tools HD software enables the score mixers to blend the score's synthetic and orchestral elements. These technologies can also help in tracking transparently the music being played and the new sounds which are being incorporated. The tracking assists in reinterpretation of the composed music so that it can be replayed by an orchestra.
